Bayer Leverkusen have completed the signing of Moussa Diaby from Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad.

Diaby returns to the club he represented between 2019 and 2023, scoring 49 goals and providing 47 assists in 172 appearances.

He has signed a contract running until the summer of 2031.

“With Moussa Diaby, we have brought a great attacker back to the Bundesliga. With his exceptional pace and dribbling ability, he will add further quality and give us even more options in attack,” said Bayer 04 sporting managing director Simon Rolfes.

Rolfes went on to describe Diaby as a player “who has a fantastic attitude towards his profession, leaves nothing to chance and lives up to these standards every day. Not only Bayer 04 fans can look forward to Moussa Diaby. He will be an asset to the entire Bundesliga.”

The 11-time France international is looking forward to wearing the Bayer 04 jersey again.

“I came to Germany as a very young and inexperienced player. Bayer 04 Leverkusen showed me a great deal of trust and always supported me,” said Diaby.

“I have never forgotten that, and Simon has always kept in touch with me. When the enquiry came in and the move became possible, I didn’t hesitate for a second. The club has grown even bigger since then – the prospect of competing for titles with Bayer 04 is a wonderful thought and a huge goal of mine.”
