Former Germany international Mats Hummels recently announced his intention to retire from football at the end of the season, once his contract with AS Roma expires.

However, Bild is now reporting that Borussia Dortmund are considering the possibility of bringing the veteran defender back on a short-term deal specifically for this summer's Club World Cup.

With key centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck sidelined by a long-term injury, the Black and Yellows are in search of a replacement - and Hummels is seen as a candidate.

Should the 35-year-old decide to delay his retirement in order to help his former club, an agreement with Roma would also have to be reached.

Hummels' contract with the Italian giants expires at the end of June, with the Club World Cup kicking off in the middle of the month.

The former German international left the Black and Yellows at the end of last season.
