Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi suffered what appeared to be a serious ankle injury during his side’s 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The injury came after a tackle from behind by Luis Díaz, with the Colombia international shown a straight red card for the incident following a VAR review.

After the match, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said he had spoken with Díaz about the challenge, and wished Hakimi a speedy recovery.

“He (Díaz) said he didn’t go in extra trying to hurt the opponent. He tried to win the ball,” Kompany said after the game.

“It’s a shame for Hakimi. It happened right in front of my eyes. The most important thing is that he recovers quickly.”

Kompany added that the incident gave him flashbacks to the Club World Cup in the summer, when Jamal Musiala suffered a serious ankle injury in Bayern’s 2-0 defeat to PSG – an injury that the German international is still recovering from.

“It was the same with Jamal Musiala in our team. I hope he (Hakimi) can quickly get back to showing his talents for his club and country.

"It’s a sport played at a very high level. It’s not always straightforward and not always easy to avoid these moments. I just hope it’s not too bad,” Kompany said.
