Werder Bremen eager to keep Füllkrug beyond current season

Financial constraints could make it difficult for the northern Bundesliga side to keep the 33-year-old veteran at the club long term.

SV Werder Bremen are reportedly pushing to retain Niclas Füllkrug’s services beyond the remainder of the 2026-27 Bundesliga season.

The striker has hit the ground running since his return on loan, but talks over a permanent deal with West Ham United could be tricky.

As Sky Germany understands, Werder would like further their collaboration with Füllkrug beyond the end of his season-long loan.

No concrete negotiations have unfolded and Bremen do not possess a purchase option in the loan agreement either.

For Füllkrug, who remains under contract with the Hammers until 2028, wages could present the biggest obstacle for Bremen to overcome.

The 33-year-old would reportedly receive approximately €2million net per annum if the London club remain in the Championship.

However, this could potentially double to €4million if they return to the Premier League – something Bremen cannot match.
