In April, it was announced that Marcel Schäfer would be leaving his position as Wolfsburg's managing director for sport with immediate effect.

The Bundesliga outfit have now found Schäfer's replacement in 49-year-old Peter Christiansen, who joins from FC Copenhagen.

"We are delighted to have been able to recruit Peter Christiansen, a proven football expert with an impressive CV. Work, football and passion are exactly the qualities that Peter stood for in his career as a player and that also characterize his work in sports management," said Frank Witter, Wolfsburg's chairman of the supervisory board.

"We would also like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks for the always trusting and fair discussions with the representatives of FC Copenhagen," he added.

Christiansen, 49, took over as FC Copenhagen's sporting director in April 2021, when he made the switch to the capital from Aarhus GF.

As a footballer, he played for Vejle, FC Copenhagen, Helsinborg and Randers.
