Real Madrid have made contact with Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso, The Athletic reports.

The Spaniard, who made 158 appearances for the Galacticos during his playing career, could replace Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.

However, the decision supposedly depends entirely on the future of Ancelotti and Real Madrid’s success this season.

If the club from the Spanish capital were to win the UEFA Champions League and/or La Liga, it’s hard to imagine the 65-year-old Italian gets the sack.

It is believed Alonso is interested in the position, evidenced by his decision to turn down management offers from Bayern Munch and Liverpool last summer.

The question is, is it too soon for Alonso to take the reins at Real Madrid – a club with the greatest expectancy of success in the world.
