As expected, Bayer Leverkusen progressed to the second round of the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday night, but they didn't do it in the convincing manner you'd expect, winning 1-0 at Regionalliga side Carl Zeiss Jena.

In a post-match interview, Robert Andrich openly admitted that the performance simply wasn't good enough.

“We know that it wasn't good enough today,” Andrich told Sky Germany (via @bayer04Xtra).

"In the end, we're very, very happy that we made it through to the next round. And that's the main thing first and foremost. But then we have to talk about what we did, how we played today, over 90 minutes, that that's not enough. Not even against regional league teams. And we have to be honest with each other and analyze it honestly.

"That's not us and we have to be honest about that and we definitely have to do better."

Having beaten Gladbach 3-2 in the Bundesliga opener, Leverkusen face RB Leipzig in their next game on Saturday.
