Forty-one-year-old trainer Florian Kohfeldt has received his third assignment in charge of a German footballing club. The former SV Werder Bremen and VfL Wolfsburg gaffer will take over for Torsten Lieberknecht at second division side SV Darmstadt 98. Lieberknecht resigned as coach of the Lilies last weekend after a winless start through four rounds of the 2024/25 campaign left recently relegated Darmstadt in 17th place in the 2. Bundesliga table.

Kohfeldt coached Bremen for roughly four seasons before being released on the season's penultimate match-day of the 2020/21 relegation campaign. He returned to the Bundesliga sidelines to help VfL Wolfsburg avoid relegation the very next season, but was sacked shortly after the 2021/22 campaign concluded. After a year out of action, a stint with K.A.S. European in Belgian ended up lasting just nine months.

“I was particularly impressed by the way the fans and those responsible at the club stuck together even through challenging times last season," Kohfeldt noted when commenting on his new appointment, "Now its about holding many one-on-one meetings and get to know the team. Together, we want to ensure that we once again build our foundation around courageous football.”
