Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl remains optimistic that Dayot Upamecano will extend his contract beyond next summer.

When asked about the ongoing negotiations on Sunday, he hinted that a conclusion could come soon.

“I don’t know what’s behind the remaining doors of the Advent calendar,” Eberl said in the mixed zone after Bayern’s 2–2 draw with Mainz, according to Sky Germany.

Asked if Upamecano could sign a new deal before the end of 2025, he replied:

“That would be desirable, but I can’t promise that.”

“Basically, I’m very confident, and I’ve said that here several times already. We’ve discussed contract extensions together over weeks and months. It’s our strong wish. All the rumors swirling around that he had declined, threats, ultimatums all nonsense. We’re talking, and we’re talking very well.

“This eye of the needle is getting smaller, and then he has to go through that eye of the needle. My wish would be that he goes through it and not past it. He’ll manage that,” Eberl concluded.
