Swiss newspaper Blick reports that FC Basel are keen to bring Borussia Mönchengladbach's Jonas Omlin back to his former club.

Omlin was Basel's starting goalkeeper from 2018 to 2020 and impressed enough to earn his move to the Foals for €9million.

According to their sources, talks between Basel and the goalkeeper – contracted to Gladbach until 2027 – have already taken place.

Having fallen down the goalkeeping ranks behind Moritz Nicolas, Borussia would be happy to remove him from their payroll.

The Swiss daily newspaper even expects the deal for the 32-year-old shot-stopper to be announced in the coming weeks.

The reason given is that Basel sporting director Daniel Stucki is facing criticism and wants to counteract the negativity with positive news.

Omlin is currently on loan at Bayer Leverkusen who picked him up in January after Mark Flekken sustained a long-term injury

However, things never really looked up for him at the fellow Rhineland club, with Janis Blaswich given starts in Flekken's absence.

Should Omlin join Basel, he is expected to replace ex-Augsburg and Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Marwin Hitz who is 38 years old.
