After months of negotiations, Bayern Munich and Dayot Upamecano have yet to reach an agreement on a new contract beyond the end of the season.
According to Bayern's honorary president Uli Hoeneß, the French centre-back has left the talks entirely in the hands of his agents – something he believes is complicating matters.
"I would be absolutely delighted if Dayot Upamecano decided to stay at FC Bayern," Hoeneß told Kicker on Sunday.
"I know that he and his family feel very comfortable in Munich. However, I fear that his agents will do everything they can to steer him away from Munich," he added.
Bayern have reportedly stretched financially to secure a renewal, offering a substantial signing bonus, a generous agent commission and even a release clause at the player’s request. Yet, to Hoeneß’ frustration, the agents are still stalling.
“I’m appalled by this behavior,” Hoeneß said.
In an effort to push for a decision, Bayern's hierarchy plan to hold direct talks with Upamecano – who has been at the club since 2021 – in the coming days.
