Bayern Munich have injury concerns at the heart of their defense ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga clash with Union Berlin.
Dayot Upamecano missed Wednesday's DFB-Pokal win over Mainz due to an injury and was replaced by Eric Dier, who was forced off with a knock in that game.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany was optimistic the duo would be fit to face Union Berlin, but wouldn't give any guarantees regarding their availability.
“It's looking good for both of them. In any case, we'll give ourselves until tomorrow to make a decision. Leon Goretzka did a superb job in that position on Wednesday. I hope that everyone will be fit, but if not I have a great deal of confidence in the other boys,” he told reporters.
Bayern will certainly be without at least two players capable of playing at the heart of defence, with Hiroki Ito and Josip Stanisic still recovering from long-term injuries.
“It's a shame when players aren't involved, it's important that the boys are fit. But I have great confidence in all the players. The boys who filled in at centre-back at Mainz did a very good job. We'll see tomorrow who can play there. We've not made excuses yet and that won't change,” said Kompany.
Sacha Boey and Aleksandar Pavlovic are also sidelined for the Bavarians.
