Kovač's wholesale changes backfire as Dortmund suffer defeat to Bodø/Glimt

BVB's head coach made four changes to his starting lineup in a bid to bring fresh energy, but Dortmund never really managed to click in the opening 60 minutes of the game.

Borussia Dortmund became the second Bundesliga side to encounter difficulties in Noway in as many days, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Bodø/Glimt tonight. Niko Kovač's ambitious rotation seemed to backfire as his side failed to click into gear and find any natural rhythm.

Bodø/Glimt shaded the opening quarter of an hour at the Aspmyra Stadion with the pick of their early attempts falling to Jens-Peter Hauge. The former Eintracht Frankfurt man stinging the palms of Gregor Kobel from around 18 yards after a corner was poorly cleared by BVB.

After that, Patrick Berg made space for Sondre Fet whipping his shot just past far post, while Dortmund's sole piece of joy came down the right as Kostas Karetsas tested Nikita Haikin. In truth Bodø/Glimt ought to have led had Ole Blomberg turned in Hauge's next delivery.

Aside from a Fábio Silva header in an offside position before the break, Niko Kovač refused to turn to his bench. Bodø/Glimt marksman Andreas Helmersen brought Kobel into the action with a zippy strike as Blomberg watched his deflected effort yield a corner.

Still, Dortmund took no heed of the warning signs. Berg fed Sondre Auklend on the right who cut it back for Fredrik Sjøvold to steer into the right corner. A deserved lead for the hosts, prompting Kovač to introduce a quartet of Ryerson, Nmecha, Nwaneri and Guirassy.

Suddenly, Bodø/Glimt's penalty box was the busier of the two as Haikin kept out Nmecha from range. Guirassy was also denied by a fine block from skipper Aleesami. Frustrations were starting to grow as Nwaneri's gilt-edged header sat up nicely for Haikin to collect.

BVB continued to try and create with Nwaneri denied once more. However, with just two minutes of injury time added, a final Haikin save to repel Nmecha consigned BVB to defeat. With it, an unsavoury record of four away defeats in succession in the Champions League.
