Hertha confirm Magath as new head coach

Felix Magath replaces Tayfun Korkut as the head coach of Hertha BSC on a contract for the rest of this season.
Hertha BSC have announced Felix Magath as new head coach on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The 68-year-old coaching veteran succeeds Tayfun Korkut, who was relieved of his duties following Saturday's 2-0 defeat against Gladbach, which leaves Hertha below the relegation line in 17th place.

"I had very open and honest discussions with Fredi Bobic," said Magath, who have won the Bundesliga three times as coach – two times with Bayern München and once with VfL Wolfsburg.

"We are all aware of the current situation, and I'm ready to help Hertha BSC achieve their goal of staying up. What's important right now is that everyone is fully focused on the remaining eight games," he added.

Hertha managing director for sport Fredi Bobic commented:

"Felix Magath's resume speaks for himself. We have been able to find a coach who has proven many times that he has the experience needed in order to make the necessary changes to help us out of the challenging situation we find ourselves in."
