Rose scolds team for failure to defend long-throw: "There's nothing simpler."

"At the end of the day," concluded Rose, "we lost 1-0 in Bochum because of a poorly defended throw-in. That's very annoying and we should stop that when we meet again in 14 days."

The goal that ended up proving the difference in VfL Bochum's shock 1-0 victory over Leipzig on Saturday came off a long throw-in. It was this fact that particularly perturbed RB trainer Marco Rose when he made his post-mortem remarks during his interview with Sky Germany. Rose singled out the failure on one of the more simpler aspects of set-piece training when discussing the loss.

"At the end of the day," concluded Rose, "we lost 1-0 in Bochum because of a poorly defended throw-in. That's very annoying and we should address that immediately after the break. We just have to be sharper and more alert in such situations."

"We talked about long throw-ins," Rose continued when discussing the team's training package, "We spent time on the topic and we still can't defend. There's nothing simpler. A throw-in. I know what's coming. I know which opponent I'm supposed to mark and can defend him throughly."

Rose did say that his team had, given the tough circumstances, "played well overall". Rose took care to emphasize that he, his staff, and the team knew that they would be in for a close and intense battle at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion on the Castroper Straße.

"We knew what kind of game we were in for," Rose noted, "A very physical battle for second balls. We rose to the occasion orderly and properly, hardly allowing anything [from Bochum] through."
