Two games and two scorer's braces have Danish striker Jonas Wind and VfL Wolfsburg off to an electrifying start to the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign. Niko Kovac's German Wolves occupy a place in the top four with a maximum six points from the first two match-days of the season. This counts as an immense difference from this time last year, when the newly-installed VfL trainer was struggling mightily with his tactics.

It took Wolfsburg eight match-days to crack the six point mark they've achieved in two rounds this time. Speaking to the Sky microphones after the latest victory, Wind credited a different mentality within Germany's green company team. While he didn't reference his countryman specifically, the Dane was also surely thinking about compatriot Joakim Maehle when referencing the quality of his teammates.

Maehle set up Wind's second goal. The Dane's fellow Scandinavian, Sweden's Mattias Svanberg, has set up two Wind tallies this season. One of the off-season's highest profile signings, Vaclav Cerny, played another strong match and set up plenty of chances. Wind credited his teammates when speaking on his four goals.

"We have a very strong team," Wind said, "Last year, when we fell behind 0-1 it was game over. Now we have a strong mentality. We played beautiful football in the last 30 minutes and scored two goals. It's a dream start."

Wind might have scored much earlier, but was stymied by a double save from Köln keeper Marvin Schwäbe at the quarter-of-an-hour mark. Kovac referenced the scene in his own post-match interview, remarking that his team deserved the win fully and "should have scored earlier."
