Christian Groß has announced that he will retire from football at the end of the season.

"This has been an extremely difficult decision. I've been playing football all my life - that's what I'm known for," the Werder Bremen veteran said in an interview published on the Bundesliga club's website.

"It's definitely not a decision you make overnight, but something you think about for a long time. I came to the conclusion with my wife and family over the Christmas break that it was time to hang up my boots."

Groß, 35, has played for Werder since joining from Osnabrück in 2018. He has made 76 appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring once and providing three assists.
