Erling Haaland has a release clause in his contract with Borussia Dortmund, according to a report from Sport Bild.

The report claims that the clause will become active in the summer of 2022, but doesn't reveal the size of it.

It's the first time in a while Dortmund have included a release clause in a player's contract as the club have restrained from doing so in recent years.

Nevertheless, Dortmund sent an important signal by seeing off competition from some of Europe's biggest clubs in the race for Haaland's signature.

"As far as working with young players is concerned, our calling card is very impressive. Every top talent in Europe should know this by now," BVB sporting director Michael Zorc told Sport Bild.

"Players such as Robert Lewandowski, Pierre-Emerick Aubayemang, Ilkay Gündogan, Ousmane Dembélé, Jadon Sancho and many others have developed remarkably at BVB. We don't need to hide from that," he added.

Haaland's contract with Dortmund runs until 2024.
