Fantasy Bundesliga: Must-haves and differentials for Matchday 7
Ahead of Matchday 7, we have highlighted a must-have player (M) and a differential pick (D) from each game that you should consider for your Fantasy Bundesliga team.
SV Werder Bremen v. 1. FC Köln:
M: Ismail Jakobs, Defender (KOE, 7.1M, 1%) - The Cologne born winger has made an immediate impact since coming back into the lineup on matchday 4. He has scored double digits in each of the last two games, recording six shots and 17 crosses in that time. He is very affordable at only 7.1M and should continue to play out of position up the pitch.
D: Theodor Gebre Selassie, Defender (SVW, 8M, 1%) - With Augustinsson still sidelined due to injury, Bremen will rely on Selassie to continue to provide the attacking relief from the wingback role. This role does tend to produce for Bremen, with Augustinsson’s replacement, Christian Groß, grabbing the assist last week.
RB Leipzig v Sport-Club Freiburg:
M: Marcel Sabitzer, Midfielder (RBL, 13.5M, 8%) - Healthy and off a huge win against PSG in the Champions League, Sabitzer will continue to work his way back into the form he was showing before his injury. Leipzig’s loss against Gladbach last week came off the back of a horrid loss to Manchester United in the Champions League. This week, expect a big game for Leipzig as they go against a Freiburg side that let in four against Leverkusen last week.
D: Benjamin Henrichs, Defender (RBL, 12.6M, 0%) - Starting and playing the full 90 in the last three Bundesliga matches, the Monaco loanee is proving to be valuable relief after the injury bug makes its way through the Leipzig backline. Only playing 26 minutes as a sub in the midweek Champions League match, Henrichs looks to start again on the weekend.
1. FSV Mainz 05 v. FC Schalke 04:
M: Amine Harit, Midfielder (S04, 10.9M, 2%) - A tough matchup to call, Schalke finally showed some positive light last weekend. We also saw the Harit that most Schalke fans were hoping would be more of a common occurrence. This will be one of the easier matchups of the year so he should make the most of it.
D: Jean-Philippe Mateta, Forward (M05, 10.5M, 0%) - With the entire Mainz squad basically a differential pick, Mateta is one of the few bright spots so far this season. He did bag a brace two games ago so he is capable of hitting it big.
1. FC Union Berlin v. DSC Arminia Bielefeld:
M: Max Kruse, Forward (FCU, 11.6M, 1%) - An absolutely influential performance from the 31 year-old last weekend against Hoffenheim saw Kruse score a goal and bag two assists. With Christopher Trimmel possibly still sidelined this weekend, Kruse should also continue with free kicks and corner duties.
D: Taiwo Awoniyi, Forward (FCU, 6M, 0%) - The Liverpool loanee looks to be settling in with Union after not getting much playing time last year while on loan at Mainz. After this weekend, he could already surpass half the minutes he played last year, 478 minutes, with not even a quarter of the season gone. He’ll continue to work on his buildup play with the older and experienced Kruse.
FC Augsburg v. Hertha BSC:
M: Daniel Caligiuri, Midfielder (FCA, 10M, 5%) - With two goals and an assist already this year, only two and two last year for Schalke, Caligiuri is looking fantastic for Augsburg from the wing. Creating multiple scoring opportunities for the attack, Caligiuri is also the main set piece taker as well.
D: Mattéo Guendouzi, Midfielder (BSC, 10.8M, 0%) - Expected to make his first start since joining on loan from Arsenal, Guendouzi has the ability to be an exciting component of the budding Hertha attack. He will have a great first matchup against Augsburg to get off to a strong start.
VfB Stuttgart v. Eintracht Frankfurt:
M: André Silva, Forward (SGE, 15.5M, 4%) - Minus the Bayern match, Silva has scored double digit Fantasy points in every game this year, registering four goals and one assist in six appearances. He is averaging almost five shots a game so far, only Lewandowski has done better.
D: Borna Sosa, Defender (VFB, 3.8M, 0%) - While not playing very many minutes so far this season for Stuttgart, Sosa has started to show flashes of excitement with the few he has played. Always a positive in the Fantasy game when a defender plays farther up the pitch, Sosa is also very affordable at only 3.8M.
Borussia Dortmund v. FC Bayern München:
M: Thomas Müller, Forward (FCB, 18M, 13%) - Müller tends to make noise in big matches. A win against Dortmund would put him as the winningest player for Bayern ever with 261 Bundesliga matches won. He will not need the extra motivation, however.
D: Corentin Tolisso, Midfielder (FCB, 9.5M, 3%) - If Tolisso starts, he can be a cheap way to get into the Bayern action if the match gets out of hand. Dortmund against Bayern lately has been one sided, with Bayern winning the last three by a scoreline of 10-0.
VfL Wolfsburg v. TSG Hoffenheim:
M: Wout Weghorst, Forward (WOB, 14.8M, 2%) - Weghorst has yet to really hit his stride this year, although he does have two goals on 13 shots so far. Facing a Hoffenheim side who struggled mightily against Union, Wolfsburg will aim to avoid a sixth draw in seven league games.
D: Munas Dabbur, Forward (TSG, 12.1M, 0%) - Dabbur has been the Hoffenheim attacker doing the best job replacing the missing Kramaric. In his last eight games in all competitions, Dabbur has four goals on 23 shots, 10 of them on target.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen v. Borussia M’gladbach:
M: Lucas Alario, Forward (B04, 11M, 2%) - Alario is playing the best football of his life since moving to Leverkusen from River Plate in 2017. With five goals in his last three Bundesliga matches, Alario should be primed to go after only putting in a 45 minute shift in Leverkusen’s midweek Europa League match.
D: Alassane Pléa, Forward (BMG, 15.5M, 1%) - It has been a struggle so far this season for Pléa, only scoring once in seven games since September 19th. Many were wondering if there was anything wrong with the forward who scored 10 and assisted 10 last year. All those questions should be gone after Pléa’s hattrick performance in the Europa League on Tuesday. Hopefully this will be the breakthrough Pléa needed to jump start his season.
