"Nobody expected a season like this" - Leverkusen fans share thoughts ahead of Europa League final

Bayer Leverkusen fans have travelled en masse to Dublin, supporting Xabi Alonso's side in the UEFA Europa League final against Italian club Atalanta tonight. Bulinews gathered the opinions of Die Werkself fans Axel and Evie before kick-off.

How have you settled in to Dublin?

Axel: "I am enjoying the city very much, it is my first time in Dublin. You can go out and drink beer here and it's a great atmosphere".

Could you have imagined such a good season for Leverkusen back in August?

Axel: "Nobody expected a season like this. We are all happy and we are enjoying every day. Every match is great and even if we win today [vs Atalanta] it would be incredible".

What has been your highlight of the Europa League campaign?

Evie: “The game in Roma. It was my personal highlight because the goal [by Robert Andrich] was fantastic. To win in a difficult stadium was great.”

Who has been Leverkusen's player of the Europa League campaign?

Axel & Evie: "Granit Xhaka. He is the most important player in the squad. He is creative in every play and he is the brain of Xabi Alonso on the pitch like an orchestrator".

What are your predictions for tonight's game against Atalanta?

Axel: "I believe it will be 2-0... for Bayer 'Never-lusen!"

Evie: "I believe it will be 2-2. It will go to extra time and Leverkusen will win the Europa League in extra time".

Bayer Leverkusen will look to repeat their Europa League success of 1988 with victory tonight over Atalanta. The game kicks off at 8.00pm local time (9.00pm CET) in the Dublin Arena, Ireland.
