Official: Bochum sign striker Boadu on loan with purchase option
As was rumored late yesterday, VfL Bochum have augmented their attack ahead of the coming season with one-time €17 million transfer Myron Boadu. The 23-year-old heads to Germany's Revier on a one-year loan-deal from his Ligue 1 club AS Monaco. All major German footballing media outlets are confirming that Bochum have secured a purchase option as part of the deal.
Boadu's career has slowed up significantly since he moved to Monaco from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2021. Injuries and form issues have hindered his development. The once-caped Dutch international nevertheless did score three goals during a brief loan stint with FC Twente in his native country last spring. Sky Germany reports that Bochum's purchase option totals €10 million.
"Myron is exactly the type of player we were looking for," VfL sporting director Marc Lettau noted in a club statement, "a dynamic yet powerful striker, technically adept and a strong finisher."
"I've heard a lot about the Bundesliga and the fantastic atmosphere in the stadiums," the player himself added, "Bochum in particular is said to be breathtaking. I can hardly wait for the first home game."
