Prömel explains dream move to hometown club VfB Stuttgart

For Grischa Prömel, joining VfB Stuttgart is about more than football. The 31-year-old has finally joined his hometown club after leaving Hoffenheim on a free transfer, fulfilling a dream he had carried for years.

Grischa Prömel has fulfilled a long-held dream by joining VfB Stuttgart this summer. The 31-year-old midfielder moved from TSG Hoffenheim to his hometown club on a free transfer and has signed a contract until 2029.

For Prömel, the decision was an emotional one. Asked about the moment he knew it was time to make the move, he told Sport1: “I’m not getting any younger. Now was simply the right time.”

Born in Stuttgart and raised in nearby Esslingen, Prömel has a particularly strong connection to the club. Many of his childhood friends are VfB supporters and will now be in the stands watching him play for the team they grew up supporting.

“If someone from your circle manages to play for VfB and have his own shirt with his name on the back, then everyone’s heart starts beating faster,” Prömel said.

The move also gives Prömel the chance to play Champions League football, although he insists European qualification was not the deciding factor. “I didn’t make the move dependent on the Champions League,” he explained.

At 31, Prömel is an unusual signing for Sebastian Hoeneß's Stuttgart side, but his experience could prove valuable as the club prepares for a season with big goals nationally and internationally.
