Borussia Mönchengladbach fans have not exactly hidden their displeasure after it was announced that club captain Rocco Reitz will be moving to RB Leipzig in the summer.

Die Fohlen supporters have recently displayed banners reading “no acceptance” for Reitz and stating that they no longer want him to wear the captain’s armband.

Speaking to Bild, the 23-year-old central midfielder has now openly admitted that the criticism has affected him deeply.

“It really hit me hard last week, I have to be honest. It hurt. Even at home, I spent two or three days thinking about it,” Reitz said.

“I’ve played my entire life here at Borussia. I don’t know if I deserve something like that. But of course everyone is allowed to express their opinion. I accept that, even though it hurts. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it’s not nice.”

RB Leipzig have reportedly paid a €20 million fee to sign Reitz.
