Rumors linking Florian Wirtz with Bayern Munich have been revived after honorary president Uli Hoeness recently described the Bayer Leverkusen star as a "dream signing".

The timing is hardly coincidental, as Bayer Leverkusen face Bayern Munich at the BayArena on Saturday in a match that could prove crucial in the battle for the Bundesliga title.

However, Bayer Leverkusen managing director for sport Simon Rolfes insists the comments have not caused any unrest within the German champions' ranks.

"I'm not interested in that at all and it's nothing that affects us," Rolfes told Kicker.

"Bayern used to do something similar before games like this when I was 10 years old and read Kicker. So maybe it's not a new tactic.

“I think we're all fans of Florian Wirtz and we all like him. I'm happy that Bayern follow our games closely and that many other fans do the same.”

Saturday's game at the BayArena kicks off at 18:30 CET.
