There is a big question mark over Kasper Hjulmand’s future as Bayer Leverkusen coach, with reports suggesting it has already been decided that the Dane will not remain in the role beyond the summer.

After Bayer Leverkusen's six-place finish in the Bundesliga was confirmed on Saturday, sporting managing director Simon Rolfes was unwilling to offer a clear commitment to the coach, according to Kicker.

“We want clarity on as many things as possible, as quickly as possible,” Rolfes said.

“Of course, we will do it in a timely manner. We will sit down, exchange views and analyse everything.”

The flaws on display in Saturday’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Hamburger SV, Rolfes added, “are the responsibility of a coach, the coaching staff, and the club. But every player is also responsible for themselves.”

Hjulmand took over the job in September on a contract running until 2027.
