Stuttgart boosted their chances of progressing from the league phase of the Europa League with a 4-1 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv. Sebastian Hoeneß praised his team in the post-match interview.

We achieved what we set out to do,” said the 43-year-old coach. “With the first half, we can be very satisfied. The scoreline could have been higher at half-time. It was also positive that we scored the third goal immediately after the restart.

“The goal until the winter break is to be successful as much as possible in the Bundesliga, and to tackle the two games decisively.”

Stuttgart will end the year with games against Werder Bremen and TSG Hoffenheim. In the Europa League, they’re currently in ninth place out of 36 teams. After the winter break, Hoeneß needs to tackle the challenges of AS Roma and Young Boys to secure a place in the knockout stage.
