Late Füllkrug header leads Germany to comeback win over Netherlands

Niclas Füllkrug's late header earned Germany a 2-1 win over the Netherlands in Frankfurt on Tuesday night.
After an impressive 2-0 win over France last Saturday, Germany picked up their second win in a row by beating the Netherlands 2-1 in Frankfurt on Tuesday night.

Things didn't start as planned for Julian Nagelsmann's men, however, as Joey Veerman put the visitors ahead with a superb volley in the fourth minute.

But Maximilian Mittelstädt soon restored parity with a stunning shot that hit the underside of the crossbar and went in for his first goal for the national team in the 11th minute.

The hosts looked to build on this momentum in the first half, but Ilkay Gündogan, Toni Kroos and Jamal Musiala all missed promising chances before the break.

As in the first half, the Netherlands started well after the break, with Donyell Malen and Memphis Depay both threatening.

But as the second half wore on, it was Germany who looked the more likely to score, with Jamal Musiala and Thomas Muller both going close before second-half substitute Niclas Füllkrug scored the winner.

With just five minutes remaining, Füllkrug popped up in the box from a corner kick and sent a header towards goal that Bart Verbruggen couldn't keep out.
