Anton keen to produce top-class display ahead of Leverkusen clash

VfB Stuttgart captain Waldemar Anton is keen to face the best ahead of his side's trip to the recently crowned champions.

In an effort to correct the wrongs of last week's away loss in Bremen, VfB Stuttgart captain Waldemar Anton has highlighted the importance of producing a top-class performance against an unbeatable Bayer Leverkusen side.

Having faced Leverkusen twice already this campaign, VfB are looking to end the champions' unbeaten run after playing out a 1-1 draw on matchday 14 and exiting the DFB Pokal at the hands of Xabi Alonso's side in February.

Speaking on Thursday, Anton spoke out regarding the two previous encounters.

“Both games were top class, both could have gone either way.”

A week after securing Europa League football against Eintracht Frankfurt, Stuttgart were far from their best against Werder Bremen on matchday 30, with captain Anton highlighting this ahead of the weekend.

“We'll push ourselves to the limit in training and will try to produce a top-class display in Leverkusen on Saturday.”

“It's important that we get the basics right on the pitch. That's what we were lacking in Bremen, and it's something that shouldn't happen. We've analysed that game and have drawn a line under it.”

Anton netted the opener in VfB's 3-2 cup quarter-final loss to tomorrow's opponents, and the captain looks to right the wrongs of last weekend and claw back some momentum as the final matchdays approach.
