Hat-trick hero Wirtz on Leverkusen's title win: "Can't even comprehend it yet"
At 20, Florian Wirtz is a key player for both Bayer Leverkusen and Germany - and now also a Bundesliga champion.
To keep him fresh, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso left Wirtz out of the starting line-up for Sunday's game against Werder, but brought the 20-year-old on at half-time and he went on to score a hat-trick in Leverkusen's 5-0 victory that clinched the title.
Speaking to DAZN after the game, Wirtz said it would take some time for him to fully comprehend what Leverkusen have achieved.
"It's a dream come true. Now it's time to celebrate," said youngster.
"It's indescribable. I can't even comprehend it yet. It takes me a while to get my head around what we've done.
“The party outside with the fans and in the locker room was great. You can't imagine a season like this. But when we started to win a lot of games, I started to think that it could be more than just a good season,” revealed Wirtz.
The season could get even better for Leverkusen if they manage to win the DFB-Pokal and the Europa League as well.
