Lothar Matthäus 'still can't understand' why Bayern didn't sign Timo Werner

Bayern München made a mistake by choosing not to bring in Timo Werner from RB Leipzig ahead of this season, says Lothar Matthäus.
Lothar Matthäus believes Bayern München should have signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig before this season.

According to reports, Bayern turned down the chance to bring in Werner for just €25 million, and Matthäus admits he finds it difficult to understand that decision.

"I still don't understand why Bayern didn't sign Werner before the season. They are looking thin offensively at the moment, even if Coman and Gnabry won't be out for a long while. With the flexibility that Werner could have brought to the team, all problems would have been solved for a transfer fee of just €25 million," Matthäus told Bild.

Werner, who ended up extending his contract with RB Leipzig until 2023 instead, has been in red-hot form this season, scoring 23 goals in 25 games.
