Bayern updates: FCB resume contract talks with Davies, Zirkzee to be reunited with Kompany?

Sky Germany reports that Vincent Kompany's appointment as the club's new head-coach might lead to Alphonso Davies remaining with the German record champions after all.

In other FCB personnel news related to Kompany's recent installation, the likelihood that Bayern might exercise their buyback option on Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee may have increased.

Sky Germany reports that Vincent Kompany's appointment as the Bayern's next head-coach has led to renewed contract talks with disaffected Canadian left-back Alphonso Davies. The German pay channel reports that negotiations over a contract extension that broke down this spring have been resumed and are apparently going well. Real Madrid have backed off their pursuit of the 23-year-old for now and Davies isn't keen on being involved in a swap deal.

Given his recent form dip, there may be little choice for Davies but to accept a salary below his desired level. Sky nevertheless claims that Kompany remains a fan of Davies and wishes to retain him. The 45-times-capped Canadian international could receive the promise of a fresh start and better playing prospects under the new trainer.

In another summer personnel matter related to Kompany, it may very well be the case that one of the reasons the Belgian gaffer was given the job in the first place relates to Bayern's desire to exercise a buyback option on Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee of FC Bologna. The German giants are well known to be interested in bringing Zirkzee back, but must first convince the player the join their new project.

Zirkzee happened to thrive under Kompany on loan with RSC Anderlecht, scoring 18 goals in 47 competitive appearances during the 2021/22 campaign in the Belgian Pro League. Bayern are widely reported to have priority rights to a Zirkzee buyback even if the now 23-year-old's current form leaves several other Serie A sides interested in him.

Bayern's option is rumored to be around €20 million. Zirkzee's current estimated market worth has skyrocketed up to €40 million. The heavily capped Dutch youth international netted 12 goals and registered seven assists in 37 appearances across all comps for Bologna this year. He still maintains a contract with the fifth-placed Serie A side through 2026.
