"I don't have to commit myself" - Nagelsmann over Kimmich's position debate

After Germany's 4-0 win over Luxembourg, national team coach Julian Nagelsmann is happy with his team - but he does not want to commit himself regarding Joshua Kimmich's position in the team.

Julian Nagelsmann can be very content with his team's performance against Luxembourg - some very inticipating a difficult match, but Germany made it clear from the beginning that they were here to get the three points and score as many goals as possible.

Here are Julian Nagelsmann's thoughts after the game:

“We were able to implement a lot of what we had planned before the game. Given our dominance, we could have scored one or two more goals, but overall our body language and aggression were very good. Even when the opposition is down to 10 men, they can still defend tightly and well. In situations like that, it's important that we remain hungry and keep pressing – we did that well.”

“From the 70th minute onwards, we were a little sloppier and passed less frequently, which allowed the opposition to get back into the game more quickly. But we controlled it well today.”

I don't want to commit to Kimmich staying at right-back. I've committed myself in the past, but now it's time to take a step back – I don't have to commit myself. Kimmich consistently plays well in several positions. Now we'll see on Monday where he's needed most.”

“Gnabry is very important for us and was also exemplary in his defensive play. He came back superbly and helped out in defense. He's in great form offensively, but today I also have to praise his defensive qualities.”

“Both Bayern and Dortmund have bigger team-blocks within our national team again. That's because both teams have been in great form since the end of last season, especially Bayern. Goretzka and Pavlović are in good shape and Tah is also in good form. Kimmich has been playing at a high level for years and Gnabry is in great form, as I mentioned earlier.”

“Northern Ireland on Monday will be a different ball game again, so we'll have to show even more greed and aggression then.”
