Dortmund boss on Real Madrid clash: "No team deserves to be in the final more than us"

No other team deserves to be in the Champions League final more than Borussia Dortmund, according to club boss Sebastian Kehl.

Borussia Dortmund are in the Champions League final - and deservedly so, says the club's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, ahead of Saturday's showdown with Real Madrid at Wembley.

"If you look at our whole Champions League season, how we beat big teams in the group stage and then deservedly beat PSG, who have spent billions trying to win this title for years... That's why I think there is no team that deserves to be in this final more than us," Kehl told Kicker.

Although he has great respect for Real Madrid, Kehl believes Borussia Dortmund have what it takes to upset the Spanish champions.

"There will certainly be difficult phases in this game, but there will also be good moments in which we can surprise Real," he said.

"They have won all eight Champions League finals they've been involved in, and the last time they lost an international final was in 1983. They have a lot of experience, which is something we lack in our squad.

"They are the clear favorites, but we will still be looking for our chance, and this constellation makes it a very exciting task. I am convinced that we can do it.

In a way, Dortmund's lack of experience and maturity could be an advantage, according to Kehl.

“It creates the joy and the willingness to give everything, to be courageous - because we have nothing to lose against Real Madrid," he said.
