Adam Markhiyev injured his nose in a 3-0 win over Schalke 04 in their last home game and will now miss the final fixture of the campaign, 1.FC Nürnberg have confirmed.

Markhiyev required treatment after a collision in the second minute of the game with the 2. Bundesliga champions, meaning the 24-year-old had to leave the pitch to get patched up.

Although Markhiyev was subsequently able to return and play the full 90 minutes, further examinations revealed a multi-fragment fracture of his nasal bone.

Following examinations in the subsequent days, Markhiyev had to undergo surgery, which is why he will not be able to participate in the season finale in Hanover.

Whether he will be able to play in the remaining international matches with the Finnish national team depends on the progress of his individual recovery process.

Over the course of the 2. Bundesliga campaign, the holding midfielder featured on 26 occasions in the league, providing a solitary goal and an assist.
