Having shored up their attack via the signings of Adam Hlozek and Haris Tabakovic, it now appears as if the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim front office will complete a double signing of two defensive signings within the next few days. German transfer guru Florian Plettenberg reports that the Kraichgauer are set to bring in French right-back Valentin Gendrey from US Lecce and Croatian center back Robin Hranac from Viktoria Pilsen.
Both Gendrey and Hranac will be purchased for transfer fees in the €9-million-range, well above the estimated market worth of the respective players. The combined €18 million signings will plunge the Sinsheimer estimated transfer balance this offseason deep into the red. Hoffenheim have profited from the sale of Maximilian Beier, but have already spent a combined €32 million on Hlozek, Tabakovic, and Alexander Prass.
Apart from Beier, Hoffenheim's only other inlay this season was attacker Julian Justvan. The 26-year-old was sold to Nürnberg on Tuesday for a reported €1 million. It was nevertheless also reported on Tuesday that the Sinsheimers banked an additional €8 million as part of a re-sale clause attached to Georginio Rutter. Plettenberg claims that Hranac and Gendrey will report to Sinsheim this weekend for medicals.
