He put in a mature showing for a footballer his age, taking on the more experienced Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva.
His display the 4-2 aggregate loss against City, and specifically in the 2-1 second-leg loss drew praise from the Cityzens’ boss Pep Guardiola.
When asked about the central midfielder’s performances over the two legs, he said: “I can’t believe it, maybe he’s a liar (about his age)! He’s so good for 17-years-old, he’s a fantastic player. There was one moment when he didn’t get the ball from central defenders, how he shouts and demands that ball to him at 17 means a lot.”
Guardiola added: “I spoke with his manager, Edin, and he told me what you see in these two games is like every training session.”
Manchester City will face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the Chamoions League after the Parisians knocked out last edition’s winners Bayern Munich.
