Newly promoted 2. Bundesliga side Hansa Rostock confirmed on Saturday that they had secured the services of FSV Mainz prospect Jonathan Meier on a season-long-loan.

This will evidently not be the year that, as some had predicted, young German left-back/winger Jonathan Meier cracks a Bundesliga starting XI. Instead, the member of Stefan Kuntz's 2021 UEFA U21 European Championship side will head out back on loan for the second consecutive season.

Meier once again heads to the former East. After sending last year with Dynamo Dresden in the third division, the 21-year-old will play this year in the 2. Bundesliga at newly promoted Rostock.

"Jonathan is pacey, top-trained, and technically gifted player who made great strides in his development," Hansa sporting director Martin Pieckenhagen noted in discussing his ninth summer signing on the club's website.

"I was impressed by the club's promotion and look forward to doing my part to helping them remain in this class," Meier noted in his own statement.
