"I'm over the moon!" - Paris Brunner shines on U21 debut

Paris Brunner could hardly have wished for a better Germany U21 debut.

The AS Monaco forward scored twice in Germany's 4-0 victory over Latvia, opening the scoring after just 53 seconds before adding his second shortly before half-time.

"What a start!" Brunner said after the game. "I'm over the moon – first game for the U21s and then straight away a brace. The main thing is that we won. The brace is the icing on the cake."

The 20-year-old had only recently received his first U21 call-up, but coach Antonio Di Salvo was already impressed with what he saw.

"We don't want to slow him down," Di Salvo said, according to the report. The Germany coach believes Brunner's confidence and attacking qualities can make him an important player for the U21s.

Brunner himself was keen to keep the focus on the team rather than his personal achievement, adding that Germany had "played a really good game" and deserved the victory.

The result leaves Germany top of their qualifying group with 21 points from eight matches, while Brunner has immediately put his name forward for another start in the upcoming qualifiers.
