Report: Union Berlin outpace Gladbach, finalize €7 million deal for Bochum's Bernardo

Germany's main sporting tabloid is currently reporting that - despite interest from Borussia Mönchengladbach - 1. FC Union Berlin are about to sign Brazilian left-back Bernardo away from VfL Bochum.

After approximately one month's worth of talks with Borussia Mönchengladbach, it looks to be the case that VfL Bochum left-back Bernardo Fernandes da Silva will be moving to Köpenick instead. Germany's "Sport Bild" tabloid reports that 1. FC Union Berlin have reached an agreement to sign the 29-year-old. A €7 million deal with bonuses is set to be confirmed early this week after the completion of a Monday medical.

Bochum signed the former Red Bull academy man away from Salzburg last summer for a mere €600,000. Amid a successful season in which he scored a goal and pocketed an assist in 33 league appearances, Bernardo's estimated market worth rose from €3 million to €5.5 million. One surmises that Bernardo's acquisition will expedite German left-back Robin Gosens' move out of the German capital.
