After sacking Peter Christiansen as their managing director for sport, VfL Wolfsburg have announced that club legend Diego Benaglio will take over the position on an interim basis.
Wolfsburg supervisory board chairman Sebastian Rudolph confirmed the decision at a press conference on Monday.
Benaglio has been a member of the supervisory board since the summer of 2025 and will now take on additional responsibilities.
“We decided in the supervisory board to ask Diego Benaglio to take on this task with his sporting expertise,” Rudolph explained.
“To get even closer to the team with his expertise, serving as a link to (new head coach) Dieter Hecking, to Pirmin Schwegler (sporting director), as well as to the players and the staff.”
The former goalkeeper played 321 matches for Wolfsburg between 2008 and 2017 and won the Bundesliga with the club in 2009.
