Promotion chasers Paderborn dominated the first-half, but they couldn’t create big chances. Their better chances fell to attacking midfielders Nick Bätzner and Ruben Müller, but Elhan Kastrati was barely tested in only his second appearance for Braunschweig.

The visitors had an electric start to the second-half as Robin Heußer scored his first goal of the season seven minutes after his introduction. Paderborn’s captain Felix Götze was at fault as he lost possession in the dangerous zone.

Patrick Nkoa’s straight red card was the next game changer with Paderborn dominating the rest of the match. Sven Michel will also miss next weekend’s action after his fifth yellow card of the campaign, but he saved the day for the hosts.

The 35-year-old combined with fellow substitute Steffen Tigges to head home Paderborn’s equalizer in the 98th minute. Paderborn’s unbeaten run extended to five games, but they dropped to fourth in the standings after wins for both Darmstadt and Elversberg on matchday 25.
