Christoph Baumgartner believes RB Leipzig will need around 10 points to keep their Champions League knockout hopes alive following Wednesday's defeat to Manchester City.

The Red Bulls fought back twice on the night, with Ridle Baku and Antonio Nusa both finding the net, before Erling Haaland found a late winner for the under scrutiny Citizens.

Speaking after the game, midfielder Baumgartner acknowledged that the European campaign has fallen short of expectations so far, with just three points on the board from four outings, but insisted there is still plenty to play for.

“I think we know that we're going to need around ten points. So we have to deliver, but I definitely believe we can do it,” the Austrian told DAZN after the match.

"I think the opponents we've faced haven't exactly been the easiest; we have to be honest about that.

“Of course, it's still going to be difficult, but we've seen that we're competitive. But at the end of the day, just being competitive isn't enough. You simply have to pick up points.”

Looking back at the evening, Baumgartner expressed his frustration, with Martin Demichelis' side fighting back from a deficit twice, but were unfortunately undone on each occasion.

“Extremely bitter,” said the midfielder. "I think we played really well for large parts of the game, gave everything, and it hurts so much to lose this match.

“In a game like this, at home, you absolutely have to take at least a point.”

Looking to bounce back, Leipzig are back in action against Augsburg before the international break, while they have to wait until the clash with RC Lens on 24 November, with the French side also desperate for a turnaround following their 9-1 defeat to Como.
