Prior to Arsenal reaching an agreement to sign Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa, the Londoners were looking for alternatives in the Bundesliga.

As Sky Germany's sources understand, Arsenal were on the brink of submitting an almighty offer for Bayer Leverkusen's Jarell Quansah.

The Gunners verbally offered a €60million plus €5million in bonuses, but Leverkusen rejected the offer stating the he was not for sale.

Quansah only joined from Liverpool last summer for €35million and immediately became a regular starter for the Rhinelanders.

The 23-year-old was also part of the England squad at the World Cup, while his contract with Leverkusen runs until 2030.

Liverpool had a buy-back option for €60million, which they let expire this summer, however the option will be available again next summer.
