PSV Eindhoven have revealed that former Borussia Mönchengladbach attacker Alassane Pléa was close to joining Bayern Munich.

Last summer, his time at Gladbach ended a year before the end of his contract, and the 32-year-old joined the Dutch side for €4.5million.

However, before the transfer was finalized, Pléa was also being considered by the Bavarian record champions.

Eberl apparently wanted to sign Pléa a second time - at Gladbach, he initiated the €23million bid for Pléa to join from OGC Nice in 2018.

The transfer paid off in spades; despite several injuries, the Frenchman was a key player at Borussia Park for many years.

“He spoke very positively about him. He thought his level was good and considered bringing him to FC Bayern to add depth,” said PSV managing director Marcel Brands on Eberl's view of Pléa.
