1. FC Union Berlin centre-back Danilho Doekhi has cast fresh doubt over his future with the Bundesliga side.

The 27-year-old was strongly linked with a move away in the summer, attracting interest from several clubs, but ultimately stayed in the German capital.

However, Doekhi admits he’s not sure if he’ll remain at Union beyond the upcoming winter transfer window.

“I can’t say for sure whether I’ll still be here in the winter or if I’ll go,” Doekhi told Bild.

Reflecting on the summer speculation, he added:

“During the transfer window you always think about what could happen, especially when things get more serious. In the end I’m here and focusing on Union. There was a serious offer, but I ended up staying.

“The situation wasn’t easy. The competition had already started, but the transfer window was still open for another two weeks. It’s a difficult time for any footballer when you don’t know if you’ll still be there the following week. You can’t influence much yourself. If you have a good opportunity to leave, of course you don’t want to risk getting injured. But in my view, it’s not good to go into training or a game thinking about that.”

The Dutch defender is under contract with Union until 2026.
