SC Freiburg secured seventh place and Conference League qualification with a 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig at the Europa-Park Stadion on final matchday of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season on Saturday afternoon.
The hosts struck first in the 23rd minute when Jan-Niklas Beste reacted quickest to turn home the rebound after Matthias Ginter had struck the crossbar with a header.
Julian Schuster’s side doubled their advantage just two minutes later, as Igor Matanović rose highest to power in a cross from Johan Manzambi and put Freiburg firmly in control.
RB Leipzig, who rotated heavily after securing Champions League qualification last week, responded shortly after the half-hour mark. Yan Diomande went on a dazzling solo run before finding Assan Ouedraogo, who fired home from the edge of the box.
However, Freiburg restored their two-goal cushion early in the second half when Ginter pounced on a loose ball inside the area.
Derry Scherhant then rounded off a strong afternoon for the hosts in the 75th minute, finishing past Peter Gulácsi to seal a 4-1 win.
Julian Schuster’s men can now turn their attention to Wednesday’s Europa League final against Aston Villa, where victory would upgrade their qualification from the Conference League to the Champions League.
