One of the biggest 2. Bundesliga transfers of the summer is set to be concluded as Matej Maglica is set to join Kaiserslautern from Darmstadt. The goal-scoring center-back was absent from Darmstadt’s matchday squad against Holstein Kiel.

The 27-year-old Croat initially joined Darmstadt on loan from VfB Stuttgart in 2023. He scored six goals last season as Florian Kohfeldt’s side finished fifth in 2. Bundesliga.

Without Maglica, Darmstadt came from a two-goal deficit to earn a point at home against Kiel earlier today. Similarly, Kaiserslautern started their 2. Bundesliga campaign with a goalless draw away at overwhelming promotion candidates Wolfsburg.

"It is well known that we’re not certain about where Matej (Maglica) will play by the end of the transfer market. He is currently in talks about a possible change," confirmed Darmstadt’s sporting director Paul Fernie on Saturday.
