Kicker Report: Mainz set to sell Onisiwo to Salzburg

Germany's preeminent footballing publication reports that - after nine-and-a-half seasons - Austrian striker Karim Onisiwo and FSV Mainz 05 are preparing to part company.

The 32-year-old remains Mainz's most successful top-flight scorer.

Kompany visits a FC Bayern fan club for the first time
After the joint sessions had been canceled since 2019 due to the pandemic and the 2022 Winter World Cup and were held in January last winter due to heavy snowfall, FC Bayern were now traditionally held again before Christmas. Head coach Vincent Kompany provided happy moments and an unforgettable afternoon for the Bayern supporters of the fan club "Obing '84 e.V." in the Upper Bavarian district of Traunstein.

Among the players considered "dead weight" on the FSV Mainz 05 roster, Austrian striker Karim Onisiwo is reportedly headed back to his home country in the current January transfer window. Germany's Kicker Magazine reports that the 32-year-old will reunite with former Mainz sporting director Rouven Schröder at RB Salzburg.

Now in his tenth season with the Rheinhessen, Onisiwo racked up 33 top flight goals in 214 appearances for his current club. Even if the production numbers weren't especially striking, the 24-times-capped ÖFB international enjoyed excellent status at his long-term club. His 62 first division scorer points remain a club record.

Sitting behind Jonathan Burkardt and Armindo Sieb on the depth chart, Onisiwo nevertheless didn't feature much this season. After starting against Union Berlin on opening day, only seven relief appearances followed.
