Assan Ouédraogo is expected to be sidelined for RB Leipzig until the end of March, the Saxony-based club have confirmed.

The 19-year-old suffered a tendon injury in his left knee during the Bundesliga match in the 2-0 win over SC Freiburg on 14 January.

This update was confirmed by thorough examinations in recent days – the injury will be treated conservatively.

“Assan's injury was a real shock for us, especially after he had fought his way back into the team in recent weeks.

"His development this season has been so positive, and his debut for the national team was absolutely deserved and impressive.

"Therefore, we are of course keeping our fingers crossed that he returns to the pitch quickly and, above all, fully recovered.

“Assan knows that he has our full support during this difficult time,” said Marcel Schäfer, Leipzig's managing director of sport.
