Sky Germany's sources believe Manchester City were “very, very, very interested” in signing Aleksandar Pavlović in summer.
Their monitoring of the Bayern Munich midfielder dates back to last spring amid the Citizens planning a midfield overhaul.
City's director of football, Hugo Viana, made several calls to Pavlović' agents and was determined to sign the German international.
At the time, Pavlović was a higher priority for Manchester City than Enzo Fernández who at the time played for Chelsea FC.
The Premier League giants signalled they would be willing to pay up to €100million and Bayern were informed of that.
However in the end, Pavlović rejected the move, saying: "I'm Bavarian, I'm from Munich and I want to stay at FC Bayern."
Manchester City wasted no time in finding an alternative, picking up Enzo Fernandez for an eye-watering €145million sum.
